The Anvil, The Trial of John Brownâ by Julia Davis. The play is based on transcripts from the trial. The trial received extensive media coverage in its day, and captured the publicâs attention for months. It brought the Abolistionist movement to a high level of intensity and fanned the passions on both sides. Judge Richard Parker of Winchester, Virginia presided although the trial was held in Charles Town, Virginia (present day Charles Town, West Virginia). The play will be performed in the courtroom of the Old Court House Civil War Museum, located at 20 N. Loudoun Street, Winchester, Virginia. Check with the Museum for times and prices.
