Built in 1840, the courthouse served as a prison and a hospital to both Northern and Southern troops. Soldiers from both sides wrote their names on the walls. A nationally recognized collection of buttons, buckles, artillery and personal artifacts, guns, and ammunition with period photographs also illustrate the life of the common soldier. This museum remembers the soldiers and tells their stories through the equipment they carried, photographs of the period, the weapons and ammunition they used, and their names, drawings, and curses on the court house walls. Hours of Operation Wed-Sat 10-5; Sun 1-5. Gift Shop Admission $3.00; Children 4 and under free; groups of 10 or more $2.00 each. Call for special tours.
