Glen Burnie was the home of Winchester's Founder, Colonel James Wood. The Manor House is a handsome Georgian red brick house with sections dating as early as 1794. The interior contains examples of some of the finest early craftsmanship in the Lower Shenandoah Valley. The Gardens which surround the manor house are some of the grandest gardens in the Shenandoah Valley. Visitors follow stone walkways through a myriad of gardens enlivened by statuary, fountains and "folly" buildings. Open April through October six days a week 10 am - 4 pm (closed on Mondays). Sundays noon to 4 pm. Located on 801 Amherst Street in Winchester. From I-81 take the exit for Rt. 37, then take the exit for Rt. 50 East, follow Rt. 50 E. (Amherst Street) into Winchester. Glen Burnie is located on your right after the road changes from four lanes to two lanes. Admission to the House and Gardens is $8 per adult; $6 for senior citizens and students; and free for children ages 6 and under.
